How to Make Besan Ladoo at Home

About Besan Ladoo:

Besan ladoo are Indian sweet balls, which made with gram flour known as besan, sugar, ghee and cardamom powdered.  This is a very tasty sweet dish, which you can make and store on an airtight jar for months.  You can make this ladoo on special occasions like marriage, Holi, Diwali, etc.

Ingredients:

  • 2-1/2 cups of coarse besan (gram flour).
  • 1 cup of ghee.
  • 1 teaspoon cardamom powder.
  • 1/2 cup of regular sugar or to taste.
  • Some finely chopped mixed dry nuts (cashew, almond, and pistachio).

Note:  You may increase or decrease the quantity of ingredients depending on for how many people you are making for.  Use the same measuring cup for the besan known as gram flour, sugar and ghee.

Method of Making Besan Ladoo:

  1.  Take a blending jar and add the sugar.
  2.  Then, blend the sugar to fine powder and keep aside for later use.
  3.  Then, take a pan and heat on a medium heat.
  4.  When pan is hot, add 1 tablespoons of ghee.
  5.  When ghee is hot, add on the chopped dry nuts (Keep some chopped dry nuts aside for garnishing) and roast them on a low to medium flame for 1-2 minutes and then transfer them into a plate and keep aside for later use.
  6.  Then, on the same pan, add on the rest of the ghee.
  7.  When, ghee starts to melt, add on the besan (gram flour) and mix well.
  8.  Then, roast the besan (gram flour) on a low flame until raw flavour of the besan goes away, it turns aromatic and turns dark golden brown in colour.  Stir continuously and make sure there are no lumps.
  9.  When besan is well roasted, add on the roasted dry nuts and mix well.
  10.  Then, turn off the flame and transfer the besan mixture to a plate or bowl and let the mixture to completely cool down or come to room temperature.
  11.  Then, add the cardamom powder and powdered sugar to the roasted besan and mix them with your hand until all the ingredients well combined and the mixture is greasy.
  12.  Then, take small portions out of the mixture and roll into small size balls and garnish the ladoo with some chopped dry nuts.
  13.  You can store this ladoo on an airtight jar for months.
