How to Make Orange Marmalade at Home

About Orange Marmalade:

Orange marmalade is similar to other citrus fruit jams, which is typically made with orange juice with pulp, orange peel, sugar, and lemon juice.  This orange marmalade goes well with toast, desserts, or any bread of your choice.

Ingredients:

  • 12 oranges.
  • 2-3 tablespoons of lemon juice.
  • 3 cups of sugar or to taste.

Note:  You may increase or decrease the quantity of ingredients depending on your taste and for how many people you are making for.

Method of Making Orange Marmalade:

  1.  Wash the oranges well and pat dry them in a kitchen towel or tissue papers.
  2.  Take a vegetable peeler and peel a thin layer of the orange rind off the oranges.
  3.  Cut the orange peel in julienne, around 2 to 2-1/2 inches in length and keep aside.
  4.  Cut all the peeled oranges into halves and squeeze out all the juice and pulps from the oranges with help of a manual juicer or a citrus press.
  5.  Take a medium to large sized saucepan and add orange peel julienne, orange juice with pulp, and sugar and mix well.
  6.  Add lemon juice and mix well.
  7.  Turn on the flame and boil the mixture on a medium to high flame for 45-50 minutes by stirring every 1-2 minutes or until the marmalade thickens.
  8.  To test if the marmalade is ready or not, place a small spoonful of mixture onto a plate and place the plate in the fridge for 8-10 minutes.
  9.  After 10 minutes, remove the plate from the fridge, drag your finger through the spoonful of marmalade and if it holds its shape, then the marmalade is ready.  If it appears runny or watery, continue cooking.
  10.  When marmalade has reached desired consistency, turn off the flame and allow the marmalade to come to room temperature.
  11.  When marmalade comes to room temperature, take a sterilized airtight glass jar and transfer the marmalade in the room temperature into the glass jar.
  12.  Keep the cap open and let the marmalade to cool down completely and then put the lid on and store the marmalade in the refrigerator and it stays well over 1 year in the refrigerator.
